All Blacks clash on Saturday16:19:00, Thu 14 May 2015 Kirstie Nisbett
There is no doubt that the All Black selectors will be watching with great interest when many top class players come up against each other in the epic clash in Wellington this Saturday night between the Hurricanes and the Chiefs.
It will be the first time that Sonny Bill Williams and Ma’a Nonu have opposed each other since Williams left NZ Rugby to play for the Sydney Roosters after the 2012 season. The experieced duo of Nonu and Smith will most likely line up against Charlie Ngatai and Williams, who have in recent times formed a formidable partnership. Liam Messam will either face All Black teammate Victor Vito, or Brad Shields, with Dane Coles and Hika Elliot likely to square off at hooker. Steve Hansen has recently announced he’ll be selecting an initial 41-man squad ahead of their first test of the season against Samoa and the match ups between the top-ranked teams even reads a bit like a virtual All Black trial.
Chris Boyd and Dave Rennie will look to play their full strength teams this weekend with the potential of coming up against each other three times before the season concludes.
This match will have a direct bearing on the New Zealand conference. If the Hurricanes come away with a victory, they are virtually confirmed to win the New Zealand conference, whereas if the Chiefs win, they still stand a chance of winning the New Zealand Conference.
The first domestic test match will be held in Christchurch against Argentina who is the All Blacks first opponent at Rugby World Cup 2015. All Blacks Tours have packages available – to find out more click here.
